Detoxification

Step by step to balance

Detoxification is sometimes the body’s most important ability to protect itself from external influences and stay Healthy. The body’s own detoxification system is able to deal with foreign substances such as chemicals, car exhaust fumes, pesticides and heavy metals. It is important to maintain a physiological balance between stress and relief.

Detoxification

More and more external influences

In addition to increasing quality of life, technical innovations and constantly growing progress also lead to an increase in foreign substances in our environment. Some facts and figures show the extent to which the body is exposed to these influences:

Microplastics

  • According to estimates by the World Conservation Union, around a third of plastic waste enters the environment via wastewater every year
  • On average, everyone ingests up to 5 g of plastic per week (= one credit card), and drinking water alone already contains around 1769 microplastic particles (0-1 mm)

Heavy metals

  • The “Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry” ranks lead, mercury and cadmium among the top 10 pollutants with the highest health risk due to their high occurrence and hazard potential
  • In Germany, adults consume around 15-30% of the tolerable amount of cadmium, lead and mercury every week

Cigarette smoke

  • 26.4 percent of men and 18.6 percent of women and 6.0 percent of boys aged 12 to 17 still smoke
  • One cigarette contains around 500 different additives
  • Tobacco smoke is a mixture of 5300 substances, 250 of which are toxic
  • Every 5th new cancer case in Germany is the result of smoking

Detoxification

Consciously facing the challenges of the times

Health awareness in Germany is steadily increasing, which is not only clearly noticeable in everyday life in terms of diet and exercise. The trend and recommendations from therapists to regularly “Detoxify” and “Detox” the body also show an awareness of the need to adapt to external changes in order to relieve the body.

The role of the liver
There are many ways to support the body in its detoxification function. But ultimately it is the liver that has to “detoxify”, it is the central metabolic organ, because only it is able to convert foreign substances absorbed via the skin, respiratory tract and gastrointestinal tract in order to be able to excrete them again.
This takes place in two complex phases, which take place one after the other in the liver cells and with the involvement of enzymes and nutrients. Fat-soluble foreign substances are first activated so that they can be better processed. They are then coupled to the body’s own substances, which enable them to be excreted via the kidneys or intestines.

p

Good to know: The liver is considered the most important metabolic organ and is also the only organ capable of fully regenerating itself.

Support for the liver

We can support the liver by consciously limiting harmful substances and reducing them to a minimum. Stimulants such as coffee, alcohol and tobacco are also hard on the liver and should be consumed less.

p

Nutrients with antioxidant properties and sulphur-containing substances, on the other hand, should be consumed more often. An intact intestine can also support the liver, as foreign substances can be retained more effectively and excreted more quickly.
